Identify Your Purpose  in Midlife

Four Steps to Identifying Your Purpose  in Midlife

Have you reached a point in your life where you felt like you were simply going through the motions?  Maybe you wake up each day feeling unfulfilled, wondering if there is more to life than what you are currently experiencing. If so, you are not alone!  Many people experience a sense of restlessness or dissatisfaction as they reach midlife, and finding your purpose can be a powerful way to find renewed meaning and fulfillment.  Here are some tips on finding your purpose in midlife and the benefits!

Your Steps!

Here are some steps that may help you shift your energy and get you thinking about yourself and your purpose!

Reflect on your values and passions

Take time to reflect on what is important to you and what brings you joy!  Make a list of your values and passions. Think about how you can incorporate them into your daily life. How can you use your skills to make a positive impact in the world?

 Experiment with new activities

I am always encouraging my clients to be curious and investigate new interests and passions! Is there a class you have been wanting to take or a club you’ve been meaning to join?  Perhaps there is even a cause that you care about.  This can help you to connect with others that share the same passions and values.

 Seek support from others

Finding your purpose can be an exciting and challenging process.  It always helps to seek support along the way. Enlist a friend, family member or even a coach to help guide you through the process.

 Embrace  Uncertainty

While we know the shortest distance between two points is a straight line, finding your purpose is going to come with some twists, turns and detours. Embrace the “lazy river” of uncertainty! Work towards not trying to control the process. Trust the journey and be open to new experiences and connections!

You are in Great Company!

It’s always nice to know you are not alone! So many great women have gone through this process in midlife!  Take for example the following women!

Vera Wang –  After a successful career as a figure skater and fashion editor, Vera Wang found her true calling as a fashion designer in her forties!

Julia Child –  Julia Child was 49 years young when she published her first cookbook, “Mastering the Art of French Cooking”.  She went on to become one of the most influential chefs of the 20th Century! Perhaps you’ve even cooked one of her famous recipes? Beef Bourguignon anyone?

Susan Boyle –  Susan was 47 years young when she auditioned for “Britain’s Got Talent” and became an overnight sensation!  She now has several successful albums.

My Past Client –  This client had a passion for writing and decided to start a blog as a creative outlet for her writing.  Her blog gained a large following and she was able to quit her job and become a full-time travel writer!  She is feeling more fulfilled as she is writing full-time and sharing her love for travel!

Insert Name – This could be you!

There are many rewards when you do identify your purpose!   My clients have noticed increased motivation, energy, and self-confidence!  Who wouldn’t love that? As well as improved relationships and a greater sense of resilience! You’ll notice that you bounce back easier from setbacks and challenges.

I challenge you to explore your values, passions and interests and see where they lead you!  Perhaps you will uncover something exciting along the journey! Need help getting started? Download this worksheet on Identifying Your Theme to get you started in the right direction!
